Water Spider / Water Strider / Mizusumashi (Part 2)

It can be a big leap to establish a water spider position. Material handlers typically have a route, but it is not on a schedule with standard work like a water spider would have. Production workers are used to the structure, but not as applied to materials.

We recommend that you test out the use of a water spider on a small scale to get a feel for how to use this position. The key is structure. They must make the rounds in sync with the pace of production.

Also keep in mind that this position presents a good development opportunity. It provides a wider view of an operation than most production workers are not used to, and it shows them a more varied set of problems. It is a good way to see the leadership potential of an individual.
