The Psychology of Lean (Part 2)

Focus on your own behaviors before looking externally. Start out by looking for examples of the defense mechanisms. They tend to be relatively easy to find when you start looking for them.

When you do recognize them, try tracing your thought process to its source. Put your effort into the underlying problem rather than on the symptom.

In effect, you are turning yourself into a Guinea pig. Even though you are focusing on yourself, be prepared for some tough going. Most people are unaccustomed to taking introspective looks at themselves, and it tends to be uncomfortable. But learning to recognize these psychological tells in yourself will hone your ability to identify them in others.
